Upgrading Your Virtual Server (VPS)
You can scale your Virtual Server's resources (such as CPU, RAM, and Disk Space) at any time to match your needs. The process is automated, though applying significant changes may take a few minutes to complete.
Important Considerations Before You Begin
- Server Reboot: In most cases, changing hardware specifications (especially CPU or RAM) will trigger an automatic server reboot. Please plan accordingly for a brief downtime.
- Disk Shrinking (Data Loss Warning): You generally cannot decrease the size of your hard drive without reinstalling the Operating System and losing all data. We strongly advise against reducing disk size unless you have a full external backup and are prepared to re-image the server.
- Disk Expansion: If you increase your disk size, the new space will not be immediately visible to the Operating System. You will need to log in to the server (via RDP or SSH) and use the OS's disk management tools to extend the partition into the new unallocated space.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Navigate to the Upgrade Tab
- Log in to the control panel and navigate to Virtual servers.
- Click on the specific server you wish to modify.
- Select the Upgrade tab from the top menu.
- Adjust Resources
You will see two columns: Original package (current specs) and Package after upgrade (new specs).
- Use the dropdown menus in the right-hand column to select your desired CPU cores, Clock speed, Memory (RAM), and Disk size.
- Select Billing Option
Choose how you want the change to be handled financially:
- Continue billing cycle: This option uses the remaining funds from your current package to cover the new configuration. No new payment is required immediately. Instead, your service duration changes: it will decrease if the new plan is more expensive, or increase if it is cheaper. (Note: This option may be grayed out depending on your current plan status).
- Start new billing cycle with an upgrade: This option resets your billing date to today and starts a full new billing period. You will be issued a new invoice for the full duration, but the value of your unused time from the previous plan will be calculated and subtracted as a discount.
- Review and Confirm
- Review the New billing details section to see the price breakdown, duration changes, and any applicable discounts.
- If a payment is required, check the box to acknowledge the charge.
- Click the UPGRADE button to process the change.
