Troubleshooting and Recovering Your Virtual Server
If you have lost access to your Virtual Private Server (VPS), this guide will help you diagnose the issue and get it running again. We recommend following these steps in order.
Phase 1: Self-Service Troubleshooting
1. Check Power Status
First, ensure your server is actually running. Navigate to the Power tab in your server's control panel. If the server is stopped, click Power On.
2. Use the Web Console
If you cannot connect via Remote Desktop (RDP) or SSH, you may have a firewall or network configuration issue. You can bypass this by using the built-in Web Console.
- Go to the Summary tab and click the WEB CONSOLE button.
- This opens a direct graphical connection to your server (like a physical monitor), allowing you to log in and fix internal settings directly.
3. Use Recovery Tab Tools
If you can access the control panel but cannot log in or connect, navigate to the Recovery tab for your server. Here you will find automated fix tools:
Restore Network Connection
Use this option if your server is running (you can see it in the Web Console) but it has no internet access. This tool attempts to reset the network adapter properties to their default working state.
Restore User Account
Use this option if you are unable to log in due to a bad username or password.
- Function: The system will attempt to restore the primary administrator account and reset it to the default password (which is displayed on the server's Summary/Properties page).
- Security Warning: If you are certain your old password was correct but login still failed, your server may have been compromised. If recovery is successful, we recommend running an antivirus scan immediately.
- Limitations: Due to various OS-level reasons, successful recovery is not 100% guaranteed.
Phase 2: Disaster Recovery (Data Loss Risk)
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, your Operating System is likely corrupted.
Option A: Re-image the Server
This is the fastest way to get back online if your OS is damaged, but it permanently wipes all data on the server.
- Go to the Recovery tab and click RE-IMAGE THE SERVER.
- Select your desired Operating System from the dropdown menu.
- Click RE-IMAGE THE SERVER to confirm.
Warning: Ensure you have external backups before proceeding. Your server will be wiped clean.
Option B: Restore from Backup (Support Request)
We retain daily snapshots of your server for the last 7 days. To use this option:
- Contact Customer Support via the ticket system.
- Specify the exact date you wish to restore to.
- Note: Any data created after that date will be lost.
Option C: Manual Data Rescue (Paid Service)
If you must recover specific files from a corrupted server but cannot simply roll back time:
- Contact Customer Support to request a "Re-image with Old Disk Attachment."
- Cost: $30.00 USD.
- Process: A technician will install a fresh OS and attach your old corrupted drive as a secondary disk (D: drive), allowing you to manually copy your important files to the new system.
