How to Add (Bind) a Domain Name to Your Website
This guide explains how to link a domain name you've purchased from a third-party registrar (like GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.) to your website hosted with us. This process is often called "domain binding."
Prerequisites
- You must already own the domain name. We do not sell domain names.
- Your website must already be created within the control panel.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Navigate to the Domains / Bindings Page
- In the main menu on the left, click on Websites.
- Click on the name of the website you want to add a domain to (e.g.,
website.somee.com
).
- In the top navigation tabs for that website, click on Domains / Bindings.
- Add Your New Domain Name
- Click the Bind new domain name button.
- A dialog box will appear. Enter your full domain name (e.g.,
www.your-custom-domain.com
) and confirm.
- The system will add the domain to the list and prepare the necessary DNS information.
- Configure DNS at Your Domain Registrar
After adding the domain, our system provides the information you need to give to your registrar. You must log in to your domain registrar's website and update your domain's DNS settings using one of the following methods.
- Method A (Recommended): Update Name Servers
Point your domain's name servers to ours. This is the preferred method as it allows us to manage all necessary DNS records for you automatically. The required name servers will be provided in the "DNS configuration instructions".
- Method B: Create an A Record
If you prefer to manage your DNS at your registrar, you can create an 'A' record for your domain (e.g., your-custom-domain.com
) and point it to the IP address shown on the Domains / Bindings page. You should also create a CNAME record for the 'www' subdomain pointing to your main domain.
Important: You only need to use one of these methods. Do not configure both Name Servers and A Records, as this can cause conflicts.
- Wait for DNS Propagation and Verify
- DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours to propagate across the internet.
- You can monitor the status on the Domains / Bindings page. A green checkmark icon will appear next to your domain name once our system confirms that it is pointing correctly to our servers.
- (Optional) Add HTTPS
- Once your domain is working correctly, you can secure it with SSL.
- Click the Add HTTPS bindings button next to your domain in the list to begin the process of adding an SSL certificate.
